Does anyone use latex inner tubes? if so what are they like? i can't imagine that they would make that much diff. But some guy's swear by them. Are they worth the extra cash?

I am running the Michelin latex tubes. They don't seem to run as hard as rubber at the same PSI. I have also noticed that I flat less than buddies that are running rubber.

They lose air faster and flat easier.

Light tubes dont make you faster, Training does...seriously though, stay with rubber, get better tires

Latex tubes:
- More flexible = fewer flats
- Looses air faster
- Lighter. Can get standard(butul) tubes with same weight, but these are very thin, punctures easy (typical when you mount the tires.)

Standard (heavy) tubes are equal to latex regarding robustness and flat resistance.

Latex tubes do provide better riding quality.

I had ridden latex tubes before and hadn't noticed any difference from butyl tubes, until I got a flat and replaced the butyl tube with a spare latex tube. Suddenly the ride feels much livelier.

Latex tubes are also supposed to have lower rolling resistance. The major drawbacks of latex tubes are :
(1) higher price
(2) more difficult to patch
(3) needs more care to handle because latex stretches very easily and will creep through any small gap

They bleed off air to the point of "lucky to make it home after 70 mi."

They suck. I hate tubulars that use latex tubes too. Vittoria and Vredestein to name two companies. .. Great tubulars, but you pump them up to 120, and the next day they are at 60psi.

Used to use Vittoria latex tubes but can't be bothered now. Expensive, lose air quickly and I've had the valves blow off.

I switched to latex because I wanted to see if they were more comfortable. I don't really care about the weight difference or the rolling resistance. I can save money AND lose weight by eating less. Instead, I switched because they feel softer on my rear and I like the way they handle in the corners. My Contis seem slighly grippier and I haven't had a flat yet with them. Also, I don't terribly mind the extra 2 minutes pumping up my tires before I ride. A buddy of mine can't feel that much of a difference but I really like them. Just don't skimp on the tires! You'll feel more of a difference between great tires and not so great tires than which inner tube you use. Hope this helps.
