hey all. i am new to the sport as the title suggests but i was wondering about what the average power output for a 5'9" and 155 lb'er would be. just wondering how i stack up and how much harder i need to work. thanx

ps. oh i forgot i currently ave a speed of 20 mph and ave 163watts on a flat as flat can be 36 mile course, though there are many slow downs due to stop and yeiled signs like prolly around 16 or so.

extomesm the way to do comparisons with others regarding power is to use power profiling. Convert your power into Watts per Kg (w/Kg)

So your power 163w/ (155 lbm = 70.30800 kg) = 2.31 w/kg
You then need to compare this over specific times such as 5s, 5mins, & 20mins of effort.

If you obtain these values you can compare against other rider class in the table at this url

http://www.cyclingpeaks.com/powerprofiling.xls

Assuming your rating of 2.31w/kg corresponds to a flat out 20mins of effort then you have a little way to go.

A discussion of power profiling can be found at

well thanx for the info. it was over a time period of an hour and forty five minutes though not 20. im sure i could put out alot more over a twenty minute period. someone else gave me the dvice of figuring out my power output for all the critical power zones so ill do that this weekend prolly and then compare everything. thanx again. but yeah i have a ways to go

was the 163 W, a TT/race type effort? what power meter did you use to collect the data?

It's highly unlikely that the HAC4 is *not* very accurate, unless you just cycle continuously up a steep hill. see http://www.cyclingforums.com/t37386.html
