Why Do You Commute?
Bunches of reasons:
#1---I just was released from PT due to my bialteral total knee replacements---I need to continue to build up my leg muscles.
#2---If I drive, it is a Ford F-150 4X4- (we heat our house with firewood---need the truck to pull a trailer and chainsaws and stuff)
#3---I find that I am more relaxed and can teach better after a ride to school, and I feel better about myself when I ride home from school
#4---I am, ironically, in better shape thatn my students who are decades younger than me.
#5---likethe ohers have said, I like to eat too much, so riding helps me keep the lbs. off.

Why Do You Commute?
You would think that a car, because it gets you places faster (for the most part) would seem freer. But a car, because it's so insulating, just becomes an extention of home or work. Actually one of my favorite parts of bike commuting is when you go zipping through jammed up traffic - "hey folks, how's the ride home treating you today?" :D

Why Do You Commute?
Actually one of my favorite parts of bike commuting is when you go zipping through jammed up trafficIf I take a certain route home from campus, I almost always go by a long line of stopped cars, even if the light ahead is green. :D I just have to make sure the oncoming traffic turning left sees me.
Right after that the road goes through a park with a 15 MPH limit -- there's some satisfaction in overtaking cars that aren't even in traffic.

Why Do You Commute?
I am always interested in why different people commute so tell me why!
1) I just love to bike and in time it has become a lifestyle. Bike commuting just became an extension of that new lifestyle;
2) the commute to work by bike has made it useless for me to go to the gym and it has, as a result, freed up some time in my daily schedule. In time, I have lost 95lbs and the greatest shape I have ever been;
3) the scenery along my biking route is a lot more inspiring than the asphalt and concrete highway and street mess I had to take by car;
4) bike commuting has allowed us to get rid of one engine-driven vehicle with all the financial savings that goes along with that action; and
5) we give the environment a bit of a break by burning up so much less fossil fuels and our country's health system by not needing so much medical attention.

Why Do You Commute?
Because...it completes me!
I ride to work and back (50 Km's) most days. The exercise is helping me gear up for the MAD ride in Woodend this Sunday. My daily commute is on a Giant CRX 1. Bought it at the start of Feb and now have 1000 Km's on the clock.
Nothing beats the feeling of sucking in the fresh air knowing I'm doing my health a big favour.

Why Do You Commute?
because i FINALLY, after 25 years, recaptured the magic i felt on the bike as a teenager; working with bikes rekindled the need to find that, and actually getting back onto one for distance put it over the top.
i ride for that magic;
i ride for the health and fitness;
i ride for the challenge of keeping it going into my 50's;
i ride for the passion, the love, the purity of it;
i ride to save on car insurance, oil changes, and gas -- sold my car three years ago;
i ride to keep riding.
