I "took the plunge" to single speed
I now have a 1978 Schwinn Speedster with a single speed coaster brake. I've just gone through it and other than some very hard "shot" grease all of the working surfaces are in great shape. The bike still shines and runs silently. It is sedate(as in not fast) and great fun to ride. The contrast in weight, speed, and style to my Bianchi and Serotta road bikes is enormous. Looks like it was left in a garage and never ridden, much to my benefit. I can see what you all love about the simpler side of cycling. At $45 it sure was affordable!
