Rollers - $120 vs $400

View Full Version : Rollers - $120 vs $400

I am very interested in getting some rollers for indoor riding, maybe prop it in front of a tv and get an enjoyable workout. I have noticed the somewhat large price range however. Some are as cheap as $120 while others are more than $400! The problem is, they look the same. My question is, what is the difference between the high end and low end rollers? Are the cheaper rollers less durable? Do I have to worry about a cheap roller that will somehow break or not function properly? I just want a basic, reliable roller system that will allow me to safely and comfortably ride inside. Any suggestions?

Irrespective of price, get one with metal drums. This is most important. Plastic ones warp. I am up for a new set myself for this very reason. Rollers which are heavier are good too because they give a bit more real world inertia (feels more like riding on the road). Good or replaceable bearings are also important.
Once you start using rollers you won't want to use a trainer so the option of adding a resistance unit is also preferable.

My next set must have these features. And do you think I could find one that does what I need? HA!
