View Full Version : 7 speed to 8 speed upgrade...

I have a low end road bike which is a 14 speed. It has a Shimano 2200 derailer
and currentyly uses a 7 speed cassette with a spacer...
the shifters are 7 speed indexed stem shifters.

if I wanted to upgrade to using an 8 speed cassette

could I use the stem shifters in "friction mode"?
or would I need to go to a bar end shifter?

would I have to change out the derailer?

Use 2200 STI Shifter/Levers with and 8 speed HG50 12-25 cassette, the 2200 derailleurs are 8 speed.
