I'm looking for a fun and robust roadie that I can use as my only bike. I've got about a 15 mile commute and I live in Edinburgh so it's wet, muddy and there's even a few cobble sections ;) Basically I want to ride all winter and want something I can throw around and take slightly offroad so a steel cyclocross type machine sounds promising.

I've been scanning eBay but haven't seen too much. What sort of names should I be looking out for?

I'm mildly tempted by the planet x uncle john cyclobike at £800 and can get it through the bike2work scheme which makes it feel cheaper :) Any other new machines around that price range?

Cheers,
Al

ok, anyone got anything to say about a lemond poprad? I'm watching a 2006 on eBay, I definitely like the idea of a steel frame but I'm not sure I need something that showbiz. How about the Trek XO or XO2. What about Bianchi's Volpe or Axis?

Most importantly, it has to be fun!
