Yes, the forum is dying and so is Pro Cycling. The unfair treatment given Landis by Dick Pound others has turned off longtime followers. I do not even know who won this year's Tour and I don't care. This despite many years of enthusiastic Tour watching. The greatest sporting event in the World has been ruined by the people running it and Pro Cycling.

I don't think people without an avatar are allowed to post to this thread. :p

Great vacation Helmut. I can almost taste the fresh lobster melting in my mouth....
Did you use an Hawaiian sling, speargun, or a lobster snare?Speargun for the grouper, light tackle for fishing in the bay and tickle sticks and hand nets for the lobsters. It's not legal to snare lobsters in Florida waters.
There was a place we went to where someone took a pickup truck topper and submerged it. We didn't have GPS coordinates for it and it took hours to find, but well worth it. When I dove down and peeked under, there were 30 lobster staring back and a nurse shark taking a nap. The nurse shark, a pretty good sized one at about six feet, spooked after I tickled a couple lobster out. Sometimes they'll just sit there, but this one made a run for.
After about six dives and 10 minutes, we were nearly at our limit, which is six per person in the Keys, so I went down for one more run at the lobster. I had three: one in the net and one in each pocket when I felt a shadow over my shoulder. Of course I thought it was the shark come back to raise a ruckus, but it was a giant sea turtle big as a VW Beetle looking longingly at the lobster in my pockets.

Crankyfeet - I recently told another member I didn't really look much like my avatar, but more like Crankyfeet's - but now you've just confused me - who is this young toy boy in your avatar Cranky (not that I go for that type).
Bring back the older, balder, fatter, uglier avatars - this forum is made up of real people.
This is all too much!!!!!!:DMoral of the story:
Never say you look like someone's avatar - it can be changed.

I googled it. Haven't heard of it before so it must not be a problem. We fishing exclusively in the shallow water and I think the google search stated that is was an issue with bill fish.

I googled it. Haven't heard of it before so it must not be a problem. We fishing exclusively in the shallow water and I think the google search stated that is was an issue with bill fish.If there was a problem with it, you would have been probably warned about it by the locals. It is primarily a reef-fish problem, stemming from a reef-type algae which gets magnified as you go up the food chain. Where it exists - grouper and barracuda can be the highest risk. Pelagic fish (like mahi mahi, tuna, wahoo, mackeral, billfish etc.) are usually free of the toxin because they don't feed on reef-fish. It is a big problem in the Bahamas, and the Carribean. But it varies geographically, depending on where the toxic reef organism exists. The poison is cumulative, it is not passed out of the system. Symptoms from memory are dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, muscle aches, numbness, and hallucinations. It rarely causes death, but if you eat a fish that is highly toxic and you have enough of it, you may require an air-lifted hospital visit.
Check wikipedia.
It is something that you might want to enquire about (talk to the locals - they usually know) before eating reef-caught fish, but usually the problem, if it exists, is well-known and visitors are warned. In much of the BVI for instance, self-caught fish are usually too toxic to eat. There is no inexpensive way of testing a fish to see if it carries the toxin before you eat it.
But crustaceans are safe.
One of the problems is that the poison can be well-known to locals, but authorities are loathe to publish accurate information about it fearing that it would discourage tourism (ie people wouldn't eat the safe fish served in restaurants).
