I saw your "speech" - but I didn't have anything remotely interesting to say here. But I'll post just to say that to help your post count ;).Confusedfan. You're officially a friend of the FID. And a sense of humor!
Welcome.... and drop in anytime.:)
[PS ....BTW...The bar for "anything remotely interesting to say here" is pretty low, as you may have noticed.;) ]

Helmut,
Here's an interesting Q&A by Barris himself briefly about his life, done this year at what looks like a book promotion.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDeSytEdxN8&NR=1Excellent. I love that guy.

There sure are some weird folks out there - a sexy calendar about coffins http://cyclingforums.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
This 2008 calender from cofanifunebri.com (http://www.cofanifunebri.com/calendario%202008/gennaio.htm) uses a bevy of hot, living bodies to show off their latest line of postmortem studio apartments.

RE: Christmas Party
I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place
on December 23rd,
starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There
will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks!
We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...please feel free to
sing along.
And don't be surprised if the Managing Director shows up dressed as Santa
Claus! A Christmas tree will
be lit at 1.00p.m.
Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no
gift should be over $10.00 to make
the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets.
This gathering is only for employees! The Managing Director will make a
special announcement at the Party.
Merry Christmas to you and your Family.
Pauline

RE: Holiday Party
In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees.
We recognize that Chanukah is an
important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though
unfortunately not this year. However, from now on
we're calling it our 'Holiday Party.'
The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians.
There will be no Christmas tree or Christmas
carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment.
Happy now?
Happy Holidays to you and your family,
Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party
Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous
requesting a non-drinking table...you didn't
sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a
sign on a table that reads, "AA Only," you
wouldn't be anonymous anymore!!!!
How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?
Forget about the gift exchange, no gift exchange allowed now since the
Union Officials feel that $10.00 is too much
money and Management believe $10.00 is a little cheap.
NO GIFT EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.
Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party
What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20th begins the
Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which
forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party!
Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon
at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs,
perhaps the Grill House can hold off on
serving your meal until the end of the party - or else package everything
up for you to take home in a little foil doggy bag.
Will that work?
Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest
from the dessert buffet and pregnant women
will get the table closest to the toilets, Gays are allowed to sit with
each other, Lesbians do not have to sit with gay men,
each will have their own table.
Yes, there will be flower arrangements for the gay men's table, too.
To the person asking permission to cross dress - no cross dressing
allowed.
We will have booster seats for short people. Low fat food will be
available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt
used in the food. We suggest those people with high blood pressure taste
the food first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert
for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!
Did I miss anything?!?!?!?!?!
Pauline.

RE: The ******** Holiday Party.
Vegetarian pricks I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this
party at the Grill House whether you like it or not,
so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death", as
you so quaintly put it. You'll get your f****** salad bar,
including organic tomatoes, but you know tomatoes have feeling, too. They
scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream.
I'm hearing them scream right NOW!!
Hope you all have a rotten holiday * drink, drive, and die!
The B**** from HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Pauline Lewis and Holiday Party
I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Pauline Lewis a speedy recovery,
and I'll continue to forward your cards to her.
In the meantime, Management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and
instead, give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd December off with full pay.

Excellent. I love that guy.Helmut....I dug up these "Best of Chuck Barris - The Gong Show" Parts 1 &2.
He said in that previous interview that he was never stoned on the show. But I'll bet my house after watching these highlight reels, that he was "Dean Martin drunk" every show.

New topic if anyone's interested.
Has anyone here climbed or thought of climbing Everest?
If so would you dope (use of Oxygen doesn't count as doping)?

Has anyone here climbed or thought of climbing Everest?
If so would you dope (use of Oxygen doesn't count as doping)?Welcome back FS! Good to have you in here and start an interesting topic as well.
I considered it once because a friend was preparing to do it. It seemed as if some mid-life crisis non-climbing types were doing it in packaged groups then, together with climbers of varying experience. Which is not surprising considering the cost. Whilst it sounds like anyone can do it, I don't think this is the case. Lots of people die and get left up there by the trails.
Any info on how long the climb takes? And how much the groups are charging individuals these days?
Would I dope? Probably not. Unless one were trying to impress someone or others rather than oneself. Its not a competition with others, its a test of/for the person doing it IMHO.
I have a suspicion that Bro Deal's done some mountain climbing - he may know a lot about it.

At least the girl looks alive I suppose.
Maybe its just an undertaker's calendar?

The thing that worries me most is the frost bite and potential for losing appendages. I agree with you regarding the accesibility and climbing/mountaineering certainly seems to be 'in'. It's no longer as cool as it once was and if I went I don't konw if I'd go with one of the big expeditions or try to go it more minimally.
I'm undecided about the doping, but I have a slightly reverse logic. I'd never dope in competition because it's cheating. But doping for this may reduce risk and be a good investment and you aren't cheating (debatable). If you're spending 50-70K to get to the summit I think I'd do everything possible to ensure I made it. Still undecided though.

I originally was going to answer like you did, then changed my opinion on a whim. But I am thinking more along the lines like you now. It would depend a lot on what you think your chances are of making it undoped. Its a bit of a catch 22. If you don't dope, you increase the risk of failure. If you do, you may still wonder afterwards if you had it in you to do it without drugs. In any case, I'm not sure I'd be able to get the expertise to dope properly anyway personally.
