Finally! I was looking for a gps unit last year and although Edge 305 users praise the device, a "GPS" without mapping abilities is not a GPS at all. I get lost a lot and like to explore so maps were essential.
Alas, the Garmin Edge 705 & 605 are here with color maps!
Garmin Edge 705 and 605 price comparison (http://www.gosale.com/cat_listing.php/90521/cycling-gps-units)
The Edge 705 Bundle comes with all the bells and whistles (actually it doesn't have a bell..strange) with HR, Cadence, Speed, preloaded Maps, and is compatible with ANT power meters. It also uses barometric data combined with GPS data to accurately measure altitude. You can also share data between units. Also available are the 705 HRM (no cadence or speed sensors, uses GPS speed), and 705 Speed + Cadence (no maps I think).
The Edge 605 only has 1 model option. No heart rate, no cadence, no speed (uses GPS speed), no ANT power meter compatibility, can't share data with other units, and no barometric altimeter.
All units come with the Virtual Partner (as did the Edge 305), courses, Garmin Connect Online Community and Garmin Training Center compatible, customizable screens, and traditional training functions like intervals, goal training etc. etc.
I'm thinking the 705 bundle will be my best choice... this will be my first GPS so I don't already have any maps to load in so having the preloaded unit will cut down on hassle and purchasing accessory maps.
It's official, my bike is going to be more high-tech than my car :)
