Hey there,
I'm looking for a MTB to get into the sport, i've been looking on a few UK sites and found a huge range of Scott, Specialized, GT bikes, but want to purchase in Perth, does anyone have any web Sites / Dealers they can recommend. Looking to spend from $500 to $700, even used doesnt matter.
Any help appreciated Cheers

Hey Chris,
I to am just getting into mountian bike riding and am in perth. Now would be the best time for your to by a bike as the 2004 models are coming out, you can pick up some 2003 models pretty cheap. I only wanted to spend $500 and wanted a dual suspension bike. The best one I found was a Mongoose wing comp $ 529, retails $725. It may not be the best bike on the market, but for some who is just starting out it suited me fine. Fleet cycles in fremantle does have quite a big range, however if you want specialized, a friend of mine just bought one from a bike shop on albany hwy canninton opposite pizza hut. It retailed for around $1200 and he got it for around $700. But look around, maybe check the yellow pages first, beacuse I was amazed at the difference in price between some of the bike shops.
Goodluck

Having been riding MTB in Perth for a while now - here's the lowdown.
The Bicycle Entrepreneur in either nedlands, Belmont or Willeton all stock specialized bikes. For MTB I'd recommend Belmont and try and see Landon. He's the MTB'er there.
Ward cycles in Morely stock scott. Good shop too, see Dave or Glen. If you ant a scott, see glen and tell him matt sent you in and you expect a good deal!
Realistically though pal, spending 500 bucks will get you a bike, but spending 1000 bucks will get you a bike you will enjoy using. If you are starting out without much cash (I am assuming you are a young bloke) spending that bit extra will ensure you dont have to spend even more down the track when your first bike keeps breaking and you discover you can't upgrade bits on it easily.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info guys, i have just got a fairly good deal, from cyclemania, i think there called in cannington, i got a Specialized Hardrock Pro Disk 03 for $780, discounted from $1200, end of year sale, so i'm pretty happy with that.
