My seat always comes loose

View Full Version : My seat always comes loose

The top allen screw on my saddle (the one that lets you slide the seat up or back) comes loose a lot. Before or during every ride, I need to break out the allen wrench and tighten it up. I'm thinking of keeping the allen wrench in my jersey, and not in my seat pouch, because I need access to it so much.

Any idea why it would keep coming loose? I screw it on so tight that it hurts my hands, but it still comes loose. I am thinking of getting a whole new saddle anyway so maybe now is the time.

Any ideas? :o

Remove the screw. Place a drop of Loctite Thread Adhesive on the threads and then get your saddle set really quickly. Don't get upset if it had begun to dry before the seat is set as it will still do its job. It will take more force to remove it too, but it can be done. You can also use Super Glue if you don't ever need to remove the screw:eek: .

Any ideas? :oIf it really is the Allen screw, then you could use a STAR WASHER ... or, get a new "nut" ...

Regardless, buying a new saddle will not resolve the problem because it is the seatpost's cradle that needs attention ...

BTW. Could you clarify just how you are discerning that the seat is loose?

Is it that the saddle is pivoting whereby the nose is moving up-or-down when you sit on it?

Red loctite is there forever.
