So_ if you had seven days to tour somewhere on the Eastern Coast of the US, where would you go? I have a few days in the states next June and I'm looking for ideas. I'll be flying in from Ireland.

If you like to explore, I recommend northwestern Massachusetts (Greenfield-Charlemont towards Williamstown) and southern Vermont (Burlington- Putney towards Bennington, Manchester, and Rutland). Great scenery, roads lightly traveled or with good shoulders, nice mix of hills and flats, friendly people, and plenty of college-skiracer-bikeracer-bohemian tradition.
Be sure to shoot down to Tanglewood in Lennox, Mass., for a Boston Symphony or pops afternoon rehearsal.

We really like Cape Cod. Excellent paved rail trail all over the cape. We loved touring it by bike, riding thought coastal towns, just a very nice ride. Watch the sand dunes up by Provicetown though, it will cost ya a few hours cleaning.

If I only had 7 days, I would ride from the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Savannah, Georgia. This is not a long distance, but there are so many sights to see plus stopping for a day of swimming and a night of partying in Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina. You would also spend at least two days in Charleston, South Carolina doing the whole tourist thing.
Actually, you might never get out of Myrtle Beach once you find out how much fun it is there. June is the perfect month to go because the heat and humidity are still in the comfortable range. If you hit Charleston during the right week, you can attend the Spoleto Festival which is the biggest fine arts festival in that part of the U.S.

Vermont offers some nice ridesYes they do, we did a week in Vermont after the week on the Cape. Love Vermont, just perfered the rides on the Cape slightly better. People are much friendlier in Vermont though.

New England is general is great for outdoorsy stuff, dependin' on the time of year (haven't been out there since I starting biking, though). June is really pretty, although it can get warm. I once hiked and through New Hampshire one Autumn, that was a gorgeous trip

They sell maps and such for do it yourself bike tourers.
I can't disagree with any of the recommendations so far, but you may enjoy some of the rides that are "off the beaten track" too. Riding through the Pennsylvania farmlands is really nice and the Harrisburg Bike Club has a book of 50 rides you can take in Central PA. There are also some nice books you can pick up:
