Overseas travel with road bike.

At the end of this year I will be moving to Ireland and I’m planning on bringing my bike on the plane with me. I'm just wondering should I just get my bike shop to put it back in its box or should I invest in a real bicycle carrier. The only thing which is holding me back with the bicycle carriers are there prices.

If it's a one off. Then use a throw away box. If you are going back and forth, then get a travel case.

Here are some reasonably priced bags. I bought the hard case and it works a dream. Comes with wheel bags, foam blocks straps,etc.

Wow, they really are reasonably priced; I thought hard cases were upwards on 1000 dollars.

Used boxes are especially useful if you are intending to travel light, and don't have anywhere to store a large bike box.

Your other option is to sell your existing bike and but anohter one when you get to Europe - prices there are a little less extortionate than they are here.
