Giant OCR C1 brake fit issue
View Full Version : Giant OCR C1 brake fit issue
Took ultegra brakes off my lemond buenes aires and switched everything over to me new Giant OCR C1 frameset. The ultegra brake arms are not long enough, the pads barely reach my 700cc rims. Only half of pad runs on rim other half rubs on tire. Anyone out there own a 2007 OCR C1 and have ultegra brakes on it? I am assuming I must get brakes with longer arms maybe campy makes something? Just doesnt make sense to me, and I worked in a bike shop years ago, so I,m not making some rookie error....
OCR is a Comfort Bike, it uses longer forks, taller, 28mm, tyres so it has a deeper drop on the callipers. Buy some 57mm Shimano or use the original Giant ones. ;)
Another option would be use some 27x1" (630mm) rims. I use those in single speed conversions... :D
As gclark8 says, the OCRs are set up for long-reach brake calipers, and different models have had Tektro or Shimano R600 (http://bike.shimano.com/catalog/cycle/products/component.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441762489) ("Ultegra level") calipers. There are some options listed on Sheldon Brown's / Harris Cyclery site (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/brake-calipers.html#55-73) and if you trawl through the Tektro web site (http://www.tektro.com/02products/index.php) you can find a few models that should fit - I think you need 57mm reach on the OCR.
