Yes, it is. Too sad. Unfortunately the forum moderators didn't take us seriously. I hope this great community and the know how won't be lost.

If the Forum moderators are not able to clean up the spam, would they be interested in finding/delegating to someone who would?

It appears to have been completely abandoned. When was the last post by Andy or Ric?

That's just trading a forum full of spam for one full of idiots.I have made a new forum for the cyclingforums.com community. It's empty at the moment but everybody can sign up at cyclingforum.info (http://www.cyclingforum.info). It's ad free and it's spam free. I hope this community won't be lost. I learned here a lot about training and training with a powermeter.

At cyclingforum.info (http://www.cyclingforum.info) it is possible to search in cyclingforums.com so the old topics can still be found.

Please tell me what you think about it.

I don't know about the other moderators or where they are...? Unfortunately, i've recently been dealing with some personal/family issues, which have meant i haven't had time to visit the forums and delete the spammers. I don't know how to block them at present.

I now have a bit more time available and would not like to see these forums die.

I'm trying to ascertain what i can do to get rid of the spammers. Please try and hang in there folks.

Thanks and apologies
Ric

Thanks to those that have volunteered to help moderate but who has access to get in? Ric, can you delegate to those that might be technically savy enough to implement anti spyware?

That's probably what we're dealing with. The best solution might be to moderate the first post of any new users to make sure it's topical and not a bot. The other alternative would be to use an anti-bot scheme that doesn't use character recognition, which bots can do. While they can recognize numbers and letters, they can't pick out, say, the picture of a dog from 3 pictures of cats. Or the mountain bike picture from several road bike pictures.

the problem i have is:

1) i'm shortish on time (i know we all are!)
2) i can only delete threads individually
3) i can't delegate control to anyone else

i've emailed the owner of the forum but not heard back yet.

Have you checked to see if there's a bug fix / update ? Might be.

Is what I don't understand is why the spam threads are getting any views. Do people, even new people to the forum actually want to click on those threads? LOL

LOLLOL I often wonder the same about the 'Its killing me thread'. I mean who in their right mind would want to read that drivel about an aging old sod trying to raise his FTP? :D

It's probably the bot or the spammer. The bots can even engage in fake conversations with each other to drum up interest in the product. Kind of like a pair of robotic Frank Days.
