.......I've just completed a 50 K training run in 4 HRS 01 MINS 12 SEC. (Damn that 1 min, 12 sec).
OK, so it was five mind-numbingly dull laps of a flat road course, but it was an accurate 10 k,
(10.07 k actually) measured for me by a local roads surveyor. I only intended to do 40k, but it was
such a nice sunny, windless day and I felt fine, so I carried on and completed another lap. As I've
never done a marathon before, I was surprised how easy it felt - I went through the 42 k in about
3:20 - and am annoyed now that I went so slowly. I'm even more annoyed about not breaking 4 hours,
but a call of nature on the 5th lap put paid to that. The Doug's of this world may be interested to
know that the run was completed on four 500ml de-fizzed Coca-Cola's, although I could eat a horse
right now.

OK, rec.runners, I'm off swimming with the brats. Gosh, I am a hero, if only to myself :-)

After the swim, will you be rounding off the day with a 112 mile cool down on the bike? Might get
some respect from RST then???

Seriously long run, I doubt if I would have any energy to reach the keyboard net along go swimming
after even half of what you've done.

What are you training for?

Cheers Tim

Hey Rog, We seem to both be precariously absent at the same times... do you think they suspect?

I swipped defizzed cola from some nice person around 23 miles in a marathon I once ran and remember
that I felt pretty good till the end. Does this make me a Doug?

Good on ya. I'm taking a week or so off to let my ribs heal from a ski fall. Run a few K's for me.

Swim will only be 1k, and *very* slow.

Well I was training for a 50k run in the high desert in the USA in May, but if the distance is that
easy, perhaps I should set my sights higher? BTW, my tummy is now cramping BADLY, so maybe the
distance is taking it's revenge after all. Thank god the toilets are within 20m of the pool.

Well the question with all races is whether the aim is to maximise your performance or just to
complete the distance or maybe as here both?

The heat could be a big factor in the latter I would guess.

I'm mainly a 1500 runner so finishing the race is no great shakes but if I'm anywhere close to 4:00
(or rarely under) then I go home pleased.

BTW,

Yeah, I've found that. I did a 20 mile race last winter (long way for a miler) and had to take to my
bed in the afternoon - for a snooze I hasten to add before the...!

Are you poorly-educated, intolerant and grumpy? Thought not. I'm sorry, you can't be a 'Doug'.

Yunno, I think I'm taking my running too seriously. I've deliberately passed on a couple of boarding
opportunities 'cause I didn't want to risk an injury in the middle of training for this 50k race.
Damn it, if you can, I can. Boarding at Glenshee tomorrow.
