Race Report: Nike Run Hit Wonder 2/16
The race sold out with 10,000 combined entrants between the 5k and 10k. Unfortunately, both races
were started at the same time. It took about one minute to get to the starting line. The chip was
used so at least timing was accurate. I came in a little better than the middle of the pack overall
with an out of shape one hour time in the 10k. Everyone was given a read shirt with their number
already printed on it and we were told we had to wear it. It was made of nylon and too big. (I can't
wear a new shirt without washing it first as I itch.) I was so hot by the first mile that I stripped
the shirt off and tucked it into my waistband. The bands were great and there was a surprised at the
end: a finisher's medal that looks like a cd. It was a good race to do just for fun, but not if you
are really trying to compete.

Congrats, Ann! Can't blame you on the itchy shirt, I don't think I'd have liked it either. But it's
a decent time for not-in-shape 10k.

Yikes, 10K folks for a 5/10K. Even with a chip mat at the start, that's a bunch of people to avoid.
:-) Hmm, an hour for a 10K sounds pretty good to me
<G> so your next one should be pretty nice.

Nice theory that should have stayed in the classroom (where all theories work and reality doesn't
get in the way). It sounds like you handled quite well, though. Did you find it easier to tuck the
shirt than to carry it (obviously, you did)? I tend to be the opposite - I'll carry clothes rather
than have them tied, tucked, etc on me. Interesting.

:-) Sounds like it would be a good parade. Thanks,
Layne
