Yet another doping threat (Viennese Blood)
I just browsed some European news outlets and came across the following story (in German)
'Wiener Blut' (http://www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/0,1518,528735,00.html) It is mostly about athletes from other endurance sports, but of course, there's always a few cyclists:
Wien - Insgesamt werden mindestens 30 Athleten als Kunden der Blutbank verdächtigt, darunter auch die Radsportler Georg Totschnig (Österreich), früher beim deutschen Gerolsteiner-Team, Michael Rasmussen (Dänemark), Michael Boogerd (Niederlande) und Denis Mentschow (Russland). Totschnig bestreitet die erhobenen Vorwürfe.
You recognize the names of course even if you don't read German. From what I gather, it concerns blood doping. And of course, everyone named in the article denies any involvement. Seems another pile of steaming shit is headed straight to the big ceiling fan.

Only Totschnig denied. The others weren't asked. The main suspects are the who is who of German cross country skiing...

from feltet.dk:
According to German TV-station ARD, Rasmussen, and his two old Rabobank teammates Boogerd and Menchov, have been clients for an Austrian bloodbank
Also Georg Totschnig is mentioned as a client for the same bloodbank

It will be very interesting if he was a client in 2005. Sastre will finally get a GT--unless Sastre was also a client, in which case you need to go down to Tom Danielson in 8th place to find someone not involved in OP.
I think this is the same operation I posted a little info about a few days ago.

I think but I don't know. Inability to read German makes it difficult for me to say. It would be hilarious if it were a different one.

It's time to send an email to Spain, maybe they would reopen OP... a lot of victory for them .... but if Sastre is a OP rider ..

Vienna blood bank: German tv station names cyclists - not biathlon athletes and cross-country skiers http://www.cyclingheroes.info/id1100.html (http://www.cyclingheroes.info/id1100.html)
As always: denial, denial, denial.....

Well, looking at how well the German biathlons have done so far, not a big surprise at all. I wonder what kind of treatment Ole-Einar Björndalen is having... Or the Norwegian skiiers...

Holy smokes you're right. I never thought about that. Maybe he can win it this year, too. Make it 5 in a row. And then next year and the year after. 7, the magic number.
Yes, the scandal is mostly about cross country skiers and biathlon. I don't follow those sports very much. Norway always has a few good skiers. And whenever they lose, they blame the Finnish for doping (which is probably true). I have a hard time to believe that biathlon or cross country are clean. But I would assume it's an even 'smaller' sport than cycling, so, less important. Except, of course in Germany where it is huge. If German TV stops broadcasting cycling, biathlon etc. they'll end up with no sports coverage at all.

I don't buy it that they only know the cyclists.

I was watching biathlon on eurosport during last week(end) from Rupfhold, the crowds were massive!!!
Germans dominated the race, both men and women and the relays...
I'm Finnish so I know the heat we got after the 2001 WC, it was horrible to have our best athletes test positive for dope...
But what about the Norwegians, they are winning year after year, biathlon, skiing and skijumping...
Cycling is the only sport with a dope problem, what a joke!!!

Biathlon/X Country Skiing are just about the only sports that can give Cycling a run for its money in the dirty stakes. Same physiological demands, same preparation, same doctors but different levels of exposure and publicity.

Man the sports I love watching are in the sh**t at the moment Biathlon and Cycling.

According to SZ the Russian maffia is threatning investigators (private detectives, hired by the Austrian Ski federation):

Is it the Russian mafia or the Kazakh mafia? Is it about skiers or cyclists?
I agree that they know the names of the biathletes. They publish the names of the cyclists because you can shit on cyclists in Germany but not (yet) on biathletes (which I think belong to a national team as opposed to the cyclists which are part of a privately sponsored team, so that might make a difference as well).
Anyway, with time we'll know the names of the biathletes. The Norwegians are in denial about their cross country guys. It's almost Armstrong-esk. There's a whole myth built up around the way they apply ski-wax which supposedly makes the athletes go faster. It reminds me about all the 'high cadence' 'food weighing' Carmichael crap.
Bambi, you're Finnish? I hope you didn't take my previous comment the wrong way. I like Finland. It's so quirky. And I don't understand a single word which is kind of fun sometimes. Once I tried to buy butter in a grocery store. So I bought a box which featured a cow. Back in my room I found a tiny label in one corner in Swedish which said it was 100% vegetarian spreading. Shit happens when you try to be smart.
