I have Dura Ace 9spd on one of my bikes, and the chain is worn. I have a spare 10spd chain, is it ok to put that on the 9spd set-up?
I know there are different 9spd/10spd chains, but i assume the 10 spd chain is just narrower, therefore it should be ok to use a 10 spd chain on a 9spd set-up but not the other way around-Am i correct?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

The roller (internal) width is the same, so you should be able to fit it.

Do you also have a 10 speed bike? if so you might be better off to keep it for that bike and buy another 9 speed chain, which are much cheaper than a 10 speed chain.

Index systems rely on a certain chain width to ensure the cog 'grabs' the chain when you shift. Since shimano does not depend on overshifting a bit, like Campagnolo, the narrow, 5.9mm chain probably won't shift very well. If the chain is a 6.2mm one, when 9s are mostly 6.5mm(exception is the Sram PC-91(?), a '9s' chain that is 6.2mm), it may work OK but I doubt the 5.9mm is wide enough.
