Here is the UCI's press release:

http://www.uci.ch/Modules/ENews/ENewsDetails.asp?id=NTYzMw&MenuId=MTYxNw&BackLink=/Templates/UCI/UCI5/layout.asp%3FMenuID%3DMTYxNwIs the AIGCP, that Boyer heads, a defacto rider's union? Does it come under UCI control? What right does the UCI have to dictate or approve the AIGCP policy?

Boyer used to work for ASO...

Ans as predicted riders are ready to sue UCI and McQuaid for breaking work laws!

Okay, this is just getting funny now. The UCI is opening a discplinary case against the french fed and its president because they have “betrayed their obligations of loyalty.” That pic of McQauid as Adolf was not far off.

EDIT: I forgot to mention McQuaid is also going after the head of the riders' association, Eric Boyer.

I cannot wait for the time getting a pro racing license includes an oath of loyalty to the UCI.What I wonder is whether McQuaid is acting independently, or whether Verbruggen is prodding his ass to get these things done.

did any of you read that McQuaid and a young Sean Kelly were both suspended for riding a rogue race in the then aparthied South Africa... wonder if that's were he got the suspension idea from... must have been very familiar with the concept? have lot's of repsect for Sean Kelly but very disappointed to hear that he would have raced in South Africa under aparthied... wonder how much they got paid. does anyone have details on this did they try to hide who they were or did they just go down and do it?

The most spicy was McQuaid comparing his punishment for supporting apartheid and his threat on riders for a UCI- ASO fight!
Everyone would have avoided to put on front page a such participation which proves is lack of ethics and morality but he seems to have no regret of his dubious past act.

It's going to be interesting to see how much weight the UCI have now that they are not pulling punches. If it was ever going to crack open, now is the time.

Apparently the big and historical federations would restore a "clean " UCI but McQuaid, Verbruggen and their friends have to leave.
UCI has to play his own and real role as federation not as profit entity.

Nope, and there won't be. They are not "competent" to rule on the case.

P-N will go ahead, and McQuaid will throw a hissy fit tomorrow and probably Sunday also.

Maybe this is going according to the plan of McVerbruggenQuaid: When they exclude the teams that are riding the Paris-Nice, Astana will be king of the cycling world (well, at least the UCI cycling world).

Astana can compete amongst itself at the Tour of Poland. That will teach those pesky French a lesson.

Yes, I just read it as well. It seems for the case to go forward, both the ASO and UCI would have to become a part. Apparently neither was willing to subject themselves to the jurisdiction of CAS.

If cycling becomes controlled by a sports promoter, unlike any other sport in the Olympics, or any other major sport, you can just kiss it's ass goodbye.
Absolute turd .... F1 is controlled by FIA and F1 Alpha Prema. Although regulations are controlled by FIA the entire sport is run by 1 man and 1 company Eccelstone. It runs perfectly, it is challenging, exciting, fair, competitive. Of course like any sport/business it has scandals such as the recent Ferrari-McLaren affair or more tragic issues such as those surrounding the death of Senna but it has always been a great global sport phenomenon.

UCI are complete wank especially in their general administration and more specifically that surrounding ProTour licensing and doping enforcement.

If UCI would like to answer 2 questions:

Why did it not 100% fix the UNIBET uncertainty before giving them a ProTour license and why did it not resolve the Rasmussen situation in June.

There may be many further examples but these are recent and incredulous. All ASO has changed in its new contracts and regulations that suspicion of unfair play may be enough to exclude a team or rider from competition. In a world where wide spread doping exists but 100% proof is often impossible to get this perhaps is the only route open to the sport.

Based though on this new tact it is more than fair to assume or presum that Astana, Team Bruyneel have been major contributors to the doping problems within the sport.

UCI signed its own death warrant with its continual support of thee dark knights. It would have been simpler to take the stance that doping was wrong before this trendy in vogue belief was forced upon it.

Because UCI were supporting these dark knights...

You're talking about a show... dude, a travelling circus. F1 is not a sport responsible for drivers from junior level up. It's a global entertainment machine. Do you think Ecclestone gives a shit about drivers from the ground up? Do you think he would give a turd if drivers were taking PED's?

I challenge you to become an F1 driver starting from the beginning. Assuming you are person of normal means, you probably wouldn't be able to afford the fire retardant driver's suit, let alone make it past the invisible wall that prevents you from entering the "club". F1 is a little club of fast-car makers playing race against each other. It's a marketing vehicle. Even F3 requires a huge investment just to be able to play. Cycling is a sport responsible to millions of participants, of which the elite are the pros.

If this forum thinks that F1 is a shining example of where Pro Cycling should be then that may be why I don't really understand a lot of the arguments on here.

I tend to agree. F1 is just the very top, and it's tightly controlled by Ecclestone. It's entertainment, not really a sporting contest. They like a death every now and then, adds mystique, which is why the safety regulations aren't nearly as demanding as they are in other motorsports.

If that's what you want cycling to become, then there's no problem. Maybe ASO can get the top two riders to shout threats at each other before the race, to liven things up a bit.

Ah, what the hell. The last few years have been so doped up that it was almost professional wrestling anyway. If the UCI and ASO don't care about the future of this grand sport, why should I?

No one has died in F1 for a decade and a half. They now have to be at or near the forefront of safety.

F1's problem is that in any given season only two teams have a realistic chance of winning the title. If you are very, very lucky and it's a blue moon then three teams might have a chance. To make matters worse, usually only the teams in contention for the title can win a race. In this way, cycling might be compared to F1 in that the teams with the best, most expensive doping programs have a huge advantage over the other other teams.

I just reread my post earlier and I sound like I'm ranting. I have no reason to rant. I don't really know the subject matter that deeply. This must be what lots of posting on forums turns one into. Hmmmm....

Cancellara called on ASO and UCI to find a solution to the dispute and questioned if Pat McQuaid should remain at the head of the UCI.
