carbon fork, alum frame, creaking at fork/head stem after bike accident
Hello all,
I have a Trek 1.5. Aluminium frame with bontrager carbon fork.
Yesterday I had a bit of a spill, young girl on the track, tried to avoid her and the front wheel ended up in a ditch and I was thrown off the bike. My speed was approx 20 km/h.
Now I am hearing a creaking noise from the fork/head stem area when I put weight onto the handle bars. Also hear the same noise if I prop the bike up on the front wheel and allow the bike to swing around the axis of the head stem.
Is this a symptom of damaged carbon fork?
I have not ridden the bike again since and intend on bringing it to the dealer next chance I get.
Anyone had similar problems?
Thanks

If you don't have the knowledge, get it checked out by a qualified LBS technician. Safe bikes don't creak.

With luck you just need the fork/headset/stem adjusted. If turning the fork produced the noise with no load then it shouldn't be structural, sound more alignment.
Worse case the steerer is bent (bonty forks having carbon legs and Al steerers)
I hope you got the name of the girl's parents, I would consider them liable for the accident due to lack of supervision of their daughter.
