Columbia Mountain Bikes?

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

Is this Co. affiliated with Columbia sports wear? I never herd of a Columbia bike and I wanted to know if anyone has ever owned one and what they think of the brand. I am looking specifically at the Columbia Thrust 5060 mountain bike. It has everything I want with the exception of disk brakes, it does have full suspension, Shimano derailers, and the price is right. But, I don't want a pos that is just going to be a head ache?:confused:

Thanks in advance.. I don't think that Columbia Bicycle is affiliated with Columbia Sports wear. That said, Columbia Bicycles are a fairly low end bike. They were quite prolific in the 50's and 60's producing cruiser bikes, but they fell behind when multiple speed lightweight bikes came on the scene

Your Columbia Thrust is probably made of High Tensile Steel with a low end Shimano no name or Tourney drive train. Most likely the suspension is just springs rather than gas and springs. Of course I could be wrong since I have not looked at a Columbia in 10 years, and they might be trying to break into the quality bike market instead of staying in the bargain priced bike market.

But, I don't want a pos that is just going to be a head ache?:confused:

Ah, yes, Columbia Manufacturing of Westfield, Massachusetts.

Columbia was a pioneer US bicycle manufacturer around the turn of the century. Post WWII they usually followed Schwinn's lead but at a much lower price (and quality) point. Into the 1970s they insisted on manufacturing everything themselves, finally giving up after becoming consistently undercut on price and quality by Asian manufacturers.

These days their stock and trade is institutional furniture.
