Hi - new poster here so apologies if this has already been asked a guzillion times....
I'm building a bike from scratch for the first time (Dolan Volare frame base)... I have some unused Shimano WHR550 wheels which have a shimano/sram freehub; I also have a more or less complete groupset of campag veloce/chorus kit I've steadily stripped off from my sunday bike as i've upgraded it...
so the $1m question - is it possible to get a campag freehub to mate with a shimano wheel?
any advice most welcome as this building bikes malarkey is a whole new world for me :o)
Thanks

Unfortunately, no way to convert those wheels to Campagnolo freehub(altho you CAN convert a Campag wheel/hub to shimano-editorial).
YOU can, however, use a shimano 9s cogset and chain which will shift either a Campagnolo 9s or 10s quite well. Differences in cog ctr-ctr is close enough that it will work. You can also get a Wheels manufacturing cogset, with shimano splines, that is Campagnolo 9 or 10s spacing-pricey tho.

as reported by velonews in the zinn column, you can use a cheap rival or force deraileur with your campy shifters, which allows u to use the shimano cassette

The quickest least costly option is to use a shimano cassette that has lose cogs and replace 2 of the spacers toward the bottom with slightly wider shimano 9 speed spacers. it's not perfect but works well enough for what you described.
Camy 10 speed cassette is 2mm wider than shimano 10 speed = .2mm per cog.
Another good option is the american classic concersion, works 100% and not bad price :

Good call. Yep, that shifts shimano 10s spacing.
