http://eurosport.yahoo.com/26032008/58/tour-de-france-2008-di-luca-vows-win-tour-revenge.htmlLooks like it could be a ploy to get UCI on his side thinking if they give him a doping pass, he will be able to embarrass ASO.

http://eurosport.yahoo.com/26032008/58/tour-de-france-2008-di-luca-vows-win-tour-revenge.htmlIIRC, this was posted before. And as noted in that thread, he has to be invited first to be able to win the Tour - big caveat that he has overlooked.

Looks like it could be a ploy to get UCI on his side thinking if they give him a doping pass, he will be able to embarrass ASO.Why ?
No invitation to his team and no embarrass for his team... Probably teams would break their link with such riders to avoid a non-invitation.

No invitation to his team and no embarrass for his team... Probably teams would break their link with such riders to avoid a non-invitation.So Leakygas will not be invited... because of some connection to doping... and Di Luca's comments are grounds for a non-invite... Hmmmm.... so where do you draw the line on invite criteria? That's for ASO to know and us to find out I suppose, since they will never explicitly type out the criteria.
I hope they have good info on which teams are sanctioning internal dope programs and they are not just throwing their weight around settling petty personal vendettas. Because nearly all teams have some connection to doping or a doper.
It was rather stupid of him to make a statement in the press. Why not win it first, then rub it in?

Did LPR make it on the UCI wildcard list? I don't remember.

May I ask why him in particular. Sure, it is obvious he dopes, and wins, like a few other guys... just curious...Dunno if you will get a real answer Pete. These guys have strong likes and dislikes which are irrational. For instance, why would the folk in The Cult worship Astana and equate it to an American team, and hate the guts of Slipstream which is more of an American team? Ok, we know it has something to do with Vaughters, etc. but still...

Ok, we know it has something to do with Vaughters, etc. but still...You are probably right. I guess it does not have to be rational - I do not particularly like Freire, not because he has done something especially nasty - I respect him as a great rider but am not overjoyed when he wins an important race I would have rathered one of the riders I like more wins - I think there is a bit of an irrational streak in all sports fans...
Just a curiosity. I do not follow the American end of cycling so I must admit that I do not know what the whole love/hate thing with Astana/Slipstream and Vaughters is all about...

Just a curiosity. I do not follow the American end of cycling so I must admit that I do not know what the whole love/hate thing with Astana/Slipstream and Vaughters is all about...People just like to pick sides and argue...at least that is why I hate the things I hate. I justify my hatred with attributes the hated have that I find objectionable; but really, it is all about needing someone at whom I can look and say "fuck that guy/gal/animal/corporation/organization/country" so that when I lay my head down on my pillow, I know someone is lower than me in terms of my spectrum of judgment.
It is honest Friday.

Someone here can confirm this, but I thought dear old Lance has a thing against Vaughters and Slipstream to the point of even vowing to sink the team. Now, that last part is what I've read here or there on the internet and it is not from solid sources.
However, if Lance does not like Slipstream, it is safe to assume all members of the Cult will dislike Slipstream too.
