Can you work out this numberplate?

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

Anybody any ideas what this numberplate could be:

I've tried everything I think it could possibly be in
https://www.mycarcheck.com/ with no luck. The police didn't have any joy
either.

Anyone any suggestions for a better camera than this one - the Oregon
Scientific ATC2K? The real problem is that the jpeging is too aggressive
- but I suspect the SD card won't be fast enough if it's less aggressive
although a frame rate of 15 frames per second would be ok if you could
get good images.

Looks to me like BV02 OCM, which translates to a Alfa Romeo 147 T Spark
Lusso (5 Door Hatchback). However the car in the picy looks like a 3 door.

There are a couple of people using YouTube that have better cameras, but
I don't know what they are.
I don't think using the camera in the rain helps, there is a large loss
of clarity, and I don't know much an improved camera would help.

Ask in sci.astro.amateur; they do a lot of image stacking and enhancement.

You might see if the Mobibox does a better job; a bit pricy, but very small
& light, and 640x480x30fps, max 2gb sd card.

What did BV02 OCM do that attracted your attention?

Certainly looks like that. mycarcheck says it's a 5 door though, can't
see rear door handle.

Alfa do a good job of hiding the fact that their 5 doors have 5 doors.

In other frames that V looks like a W, also in some a Y. I think the W
is clearer. The M is very hard to read.

Reminds me of eye tests!

The Alfa badge is a bit of a giveaway that it isn't a Fiat ...

Umm... I've made a jpeg of the average of the best four images and make
it BV02 DCM, anyone tried that?

Thank you everybody.

The passenger in the car tried to push me off my bike yesterday
morning. I'd hoped the camera would have caught him leaning out of the
window but its field of view isn't wide enough.

Given the weather yesterday, you wouldn't expect cars to be driving
around with their window wide open.

The car passed a little close but nothing exceptionally unusual. I
could tell hear was a bit close before he passed me but I didn't know
exactly how close. Because I didn't know exactly how close I
deliberately rode over a sunken (wet) manhole cover rather than go
around it. If I had gone around it instead (as I would have preferred)
then I'd have been 15-20cm closer when the passenger touched me (I
can't really say hit me because I think I was on the limits of his
reach) and given the conditions yesterday (the roads were very
slippery) things could have turned out much worse.

I've had things shouted at me, I've even been hit by the wing mirror
of a passing car, but never before have I had anything like this
happen. On one occasion I actually had the passenger shy away from me
as the car passed too close - the car window was open and I heard the
passenger say to the driver "that was close" (it was!).

Some Alfas try fairly hard to make the back door handle non-obvious, I don't
think the picture is sharp enough to be sure whether there's a door or not.
(Nor to make out Twin Spark or Lusso badges, if any.)

I don't think that's the link you wanted - I don't think Alfa do an SUV,
and if they do Torchwood don't have the style to use it :-)

(Nothing says "we are a discrete and secretive organisation" quite like
a distinctive customised SUV with your name on the side, does it?

I'm sure I cannot be the only one who finds it disturbing that so much
information about a motor vehicle is readily available on the net to
members of the public who have demonstrated no need to know any of it.

OK, the DVLA will require their palms to be cross'd with silver before
telling you the owner's name and address. But even that is too free and
easy - only the police should be able to get those details (and ought to
be obliged to keep it confidential unless and until there is a proven
need to disclose it).

Initially I would have gone for BY02 GCW but BV02 looks more likely now
others have mentioned it.
