Could be clicking or ticking is due to slight corrosion at the spoke junctions or at the interface of the nipples with the rim. You may be able to reproduce the tick by squeezing each of the spokes together near where they cross. If that's the answer, a drop of chain lube at each junction or nipple should quiet things. Good luck....clicking noises can be tough to diagnose.

What dhk2 said + check spoke tension and bearing lubrication.
What is the feeling that accompanies the sound?
Can you induce the sound by side loading the wheel?

3 things to check with these very noisy wheels.
Hubs-Noisy and very dry from the manufacturer. Overhaul both. Lotsa grease in the front, pry the little covers off the cart bearings and grease there. Clean and OIL the freehub body and pawls.
Spokes-a little drop of oil or lindseed oil at each nipple to rim interface and samo for where the spokes enter the hubs.
Rims-when they make the rim, before they wled the seam, they hold it together with a little internal aluminum wedge. This can come loose rattling around. A punch at the dimples at the seam, tire channel of the rim or drill a small hole and a dollop of glue in there.
well i did the lube in the area where the spokes meet the hub and it worked. the noise was coming from the side where the gears are which has different construction than the other side. thanks.
