I use BCAA's during every training event and have been for years. Plus I add about 5 to 10 grms of glutamine to each bottle depending on the length and intensity of the training event.

It would be my preference to use it during and after the event than before. BCAA's are quickly absorbed, but my logic against using it before the event your body should already be in a recovered state, therefore, I do not see the need for BCAA's before the event, but during and after training to help (in theory) prevent a catabolic state as much as possible. Same for glutamine.

Here is some more insight to BCAA's (http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/134/6/1583S), but notice at the conclusion of this particular study that there is not conclusive evidence for the benefit of BCAA's.

I personally fall into the camp of those who believe there is a benefit. Otherwise I wouldn't waste my money, but I am a believer and an avid user.

Which BCAA's do you like, Felt?

At the moment I have been using MRM BCAA+G (http://www.nutritionexpress.com/protein/energy+carbs/bcaas/mrm+bcaa+g+muscle+recovery+lemonade+1000+grams.aspx)
I have tried some others, but I keep coming back to this brand.

BCAA's are becoming popular again so more brands seem to show up on the market every few months and because more people are getting interested again the price is going up. (Darn that supply and demand thing)

Just a word of warning as noted on the web page that it does not mix well.

So apparently is the simple bodybuilding staple Whey protein. Not too long ago I could get name brand 5lbs tubs for $20-24, now they are about 30-34. :(

I shouldn't complain though, when I was in Europe a few years ago any supplement was insanely priced. It was probably 2x for a 70-30 mix. What's a 70-30 mix you ask? Well it seems protein = gold there so they have to add different amounts of carbs and fats to bring the price down. A 90-10 or 80-20 was about what my old BMW 525td was worth... At least in the gym or rather 'fitness studio's they would blend up whatever you desired for a reasonable price. :)
