I want to upgrade my trek 1000 components with something better then sora. I was looking at ultegra group sets(anyone know where to get a good deal on this). But what do you think I should upgrade so I can get the bike into good racing condition. Thanks

I wanted to do the same thing for my Trek XO1 cross bike that had Sora and upgrading to 105. However, when I looked at the prices, I found if I sold the bike and spent the money on a new bike. For only about $100-150 more than the upgrade would have cost, I could have a 105 bike with not only better components, but a better wheelset and fork and lighter frame.

So do the math for yourself to see if its worth spending on the upgrade or not. Some places to check prices online are:

Good luck

The Trek 1000 is an excellent biike - but even with Ultegra or Dura Ace components, it's racing performance will be lack-luster.

It is designed to be the best entry-level road bike out there, but entry level cyclists need different things than racers do. You'll get more bang for your buck if your save your $$ until you can afford a whole new bike. Take advantage of the buying power or a large company like Trek who can get stuff from Shimano at incredibly low cost and package it in a bicycle full of value for a great deal.

If you're really itching for a race-worthy upgrade, check out the Trek 2100. 105 STI levers, Ultegra rear derailleur, Tiagra front derailleur, ZR9000/OCLV frame (Trek's high end aluminum and carbon). It's a killer bike with race geometry!
