Ciclosport's CicloRDS - Radar Distance System

Has anyone dared to try such a gadget? What do you think would be the greatest advantage compared to the ordinary cyclocomputer? There must be some downsides, too. Battery consumption is definately one concern. Not to mention bulkiness and weight. Though for my taste it's small enough, certainly light enough.

I might be missing something here, but what does it do? I can't find anything specific on the web site that mentions what it can do ..

That cycle navigation computer on the site looks pretty snazzy though :)

I had difficulties finding specs from the manufacturer's site; CicloRDS falls under the category 'Multifunctional'. Firstly, I found it by accident from a German webstore:

Nashbar sells a slightly different model, with pretty much the same features:

Funnily enough, these two webstores offer more specific description of the technology/product than the manufacturer.

Probably so. Wouldn't buy one without more specific information about bike mount, ease of use etc. There aren't probably too many reviews out there concerning RDS devices.

My guess would be that the advantage would be versatility. It appears to not use the typical sensors of a regular cyclometer which makes it usable for just about any sport. The lack of sensors would also be the downfall. It would not provide some of the cycling specific information such as cadence that you would get from a cyclocomputer. I'm pretty new to cycling though so I could be off.

That's quite right. CicloRDS lacks sensors; in cycling the greatest advantage just might be the hassle-free mounting. If I remember right, the device shouldn't be exposed to water continuously, so it might suit better for duathlon rather than triathlon. I do just cycling, and would like to hear from anyone who has experience using devices like this one.
