Bob Roll said it is an endangered Iberian Lynx. Apparently they are being reintroduced to the wild
in Spain, with some success.

I don't think that large thing standing on the stage looks anything like an endangered Iberian Lynx
or any other feline. See info here: http://www.animalinfo.org/species/carnivor/lynxpard.htm (links
to pictures too - they are spotted, not blue and yellow and amorphous).

My guess would be that it is some kind of bull? Or a representative of Galicia.

Last year the mascot was the Iberian lynx and it looked like a lynx, or at least what you would get
if you went to the Madrid outlet of Rodriguez's Pro Team Mascot Supply and asked for a lynx costume.

This year it is the Xacobeo sponsor, which is some kind of religious pilgrimage in Galicia. It's
supposed to be a pilgrim, which is why it carries a stick with a bag tied to it, like Snoopy
lighting out for the territories. IIRC, this is from Michael Barry's diary, it's not explained
anywhere on lavuelta.com that I could find.

I think it looks like a witch dressed up as a Rocket Pop (red-white-and-blue popsicle from the Good
Humor truck), but I have an overactive imagination.

Yes, I misunderstood. I thought the poster was referring to the stuffed animal they are giving the
winners. That mascot guy is something else altogether.

Xacobeo is the sponsor of the gold jersey. It's a galego word (language of Galicia, northwestern Spain), it means "Jacobean" and it's a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela where the body of St. James (the disciple) was brought to after his death and supposedly a bunch of miracles happened around there. Some of the pilgrims walk, others ride trains, horses, or even bicycles. I'll spare this board my views on such nonsense. The thing on the podium is a cartoon character/mascot of the pilgrimage.
