A friend of mine is pushing 1800 watts peak power, after only riding on the track a month. I am pretty confident he will crack 2000 watts soon.

Who is in the 2K club, or knows of someone in it ?

I know quite a few people in the 2k club, unfortunately I am not one of them and probably won't for some time with my hamstring injury...:(

I know a couple but pretty rare in masters racing, unless talking about some big units.

Newly crowned Junior World Sprint, Keirin and Team Sprint Champion Sam Webster is around the 2200 mark. But he understands that peak power has very little to do with sprinting where it is more ones 20sec to 60sec power that contributes to the results.

Well as the initiator of this thread, i will also accept 20 watts/kg as equivalent to 2k absolute.

Do you weigh under 45 kg ?

New Zealander successful at junior world championships

New Zealand cyclist Sam Webster has confirmed his status as the best junior sprinter in the world after claiming his third gold medal at the UCI Junior World Cycling Championships in Moscow on Saturday. The Auckland rider took out the individual sprint title to add to his gold medal performances in the team sprint and keirin.

Webster produced a remarkable display, unbeaten in four rounds in the sprint competition to cap off an outstanding championship. He became New Zealand's most successful junior at a world championship, eclipsing the two gold medals by Sarah Ulmer in the individual pursuit and points race at Quito, Ecuador in 1994.

Great kid. Think NZ has found a young man who is prepared to do the hard work. Congrats to him, Ethan and Cameron who rode with him in Team Sprint and team coach Justin Grace (Sam and Ethans personal coach as well) who helped them lift their game over the year.

If I hacked off both arms and legs I might make that weight... but otherwise, no.

If simply peak power (what's the biggest number you can get to the PM screen quest :p) is enought, then I will join the 20w/kg club.

Well...... now you've gone and opened it up to roadies. ;)

I am very close to the 20w/kg figure for instantaneous peak, though far from 100kg.

Craddock takes silver at world junior TT championship

Published: Aug. 7, 2009

American Lawson Craddock (Hot Tubes) earned the silver medal in the time trial at the UCI Junior Road World Championships in Moscow, Russia on Friday.
Craddock recorded a time of 32:54.45 on the 25.8-kilometer course, narrowly missing the world title. The Texan finished only 2.2 seconds behind Australia's Luke Durbrige who scored a time of 32:52:23. Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark earned the bronze at 33:03.01.
The only other American contesting the event, Nathan Brown (Covington, Tenn./Hot Tubes) was 34th at 34:42.62.
In the women's 12.9-kilometer event, Cana Solovey of the Ukraine ran away with the world title with a time of 17:39.43, more than 40 seconds faster than her closest competitor. Coryn Riveria (Proman Hit Squad) posted the top American time of 19:06.10 to earn 16th place among 35 riders. Jessica Prinner (ABD) placed 21st with a time of 19:10.76.
The UCI Junior Road World Championships will continue on Aug. 9 with both the men's and women's road race events. Riveria and Prinner will join forces with Kendall Ryan (NOW-MS Society) in the women's road race.
Ranked second internationally as a country, the junior men's road squad is expected to make some waves as Jacob Rathe (CMG Racing), Gavin Mannion (Hot Tubes), Ian Boswell (Hot Tubes) and Ryan Eastman (All Sport-Team Swift) will join Craddock and Brown for the men's road event.

 What's your point?

Did he exceed 2kW or 20w/kg during his TT run?

FWIW, Jim Martin has proposed 20 W/kg as "the measure of a man" in terms of neuromuscular power, equivalent, e.g., to the endurance athlete's benchmark of 70 mL/min/kg for VO2max. IOW, it's high enough to claim some bragging rights, but not so high as to be achievable by only a very few, and only modestly predictive of competitive success. :)
