World's Selections

View Full Version : World's Selections

Am I missing something here? How is Mike Voigt an alternate for U-23 world's? I don't really know
him that well, barely in fact, however, he's had an outstanding season. How can you win what is
essentially the Elite (w/o contract) Nationals and is 3rd in the U-23 road nat's on two very
different courses? For that matter, Erdelyi won the U-23 race. What world's selection involves
leaving our two national road champions home?

I did notice that four of the five long team listed are pro's...

U23 Road Race (five start positions): Patrick McCarty (automatic selection). Long list for remaining
four start positions: Saul Raisin, Michael Creed, Will Frischkorn, Walker Ferguson, Shawn Milne
Alternates: Stuart Gillespie, Dane Jankowiak, Timothy Duggan, Jonathan Erdelyi, Michael Voigt

You have to admit though that this was a hard selection list. I mean it is sort of an embarassment
of riches. That sure is nice for a change.

What's going on with Danielson? See where he's out of worlds because of "injury". Any official word
on his condition and why he dropped out of Tour de l'Avenir?

Your picking a team for world championships, winning U23 road nationals or elite road nationals
doesn't translate into world championship qualifications. Voight is an extremely talented kid, but
has very little international experience. Once he gets some international experience he will make an
impact. Erdelyi won a very negative crap shoot U23 road race, that has no similarity to Hamilton.
His international experience is very limited. Beyond the U23 road race he has no results. T3 Pro's
are allowed to compete in U23 world championships and have been since that level was created. T1/T2
U23's are allowed to race only the elite world's. Danny Pate did that several years ago, did the
elite world championships as T1 with Saeco and next year U23 worlds as a T3 (Prime Alliance) and won
the TT. You have to agree with TK that it is a much tougher selection this year with a deeper talent
pool than in previous years. The ultimate test of this group will be world championship results.

His CNS is probably overloaded from this year, so he needs a break. IOW: He's probably burnt out and
needs to focus on his ass whoopin next season. A great talent, but he may find those crosswinds and
high stress racing hard, like Vaughters. It will be interesting to see if he can make that transfer;
lord knows we need someone to take over for Lance.
