seat hight
View Full Version : seat hight
how high should my seat be if im mainly riding on side walks
whatever is comfortable... you might use this old rule of thumb: put your heels on the pedals and set the seat height so that your leg fully extends with the pedal at the bottom. then when you put your foot in the correct position (ball of your foot over the pedal spindle) you should have close approximation of 'correct seat height'...
If you're riding on sidewalks, you should ride without any seat, just the seatpost. Preferably, use a good file to sharpen it to a fine point.

Maybe the OP should think too - in some states it's illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk unless you're a kid.
Breaking the law or being an a$$hat? Which is worse? ;)

he shouldn't have automatically assumed that im braking the law and sugesting i stick objects up my rear
i'm gonna assume that you need not worry about the correct seat height for riding on sidewalks but rather invest in a spell checker.
proper english will get you a longer way, much.
so, what kind of bike are you riding on these sidewalks?

Have it low enough so that you easily touch the ground, but high enough so that riding isn't too hard and you won't hurt your knees
its a mongoose mountain bike

I didn't reply when I first read Longfemur's comment, but with no offense intended towards the OP, I did get a good chuckle out of it. :D
If you're going to be a sidewalk rider, first of all, it won't make any difference what your seat height is.
Secondly, whether it's legal or not, real cyclists don't need any more sidewalk riders to encourage the opinion that bicycles are toys rather than real vehicles.
Thirdly, as an urban dweller myself, I also walk a lot in addition to cycling, and all you bozos on bikes endanger my health and that of my dog every single day. I've already been hit once this year by one of you guys. Some of my neighbours have had broken bones. This year in particular, there seems to be a bike boom of sidewalk riders, and it's like a bicycle slalom course out there with people as the rubber cones.
Sidewalk riding is so pokey anyway that you may as well forget about your seat height, hang the bike in your garage, and walk instead.
