If you think marathon schedules vary a lot then you should see the bizarre differences in the ultra
stuff. Are you training for an ultra or just looking for schedules with big numbers? What are you
really looking for?

Yeah, 100 miles in 2 weeks = 50 miles per week = ( [Day 1 = 7 1/7 miles] [Day 2 = 7 1/7 miles]
[Day 3 = 7 1/7 miles] [Day 4 = 7 1/7 miles] [Day 5 = 7 1/7 miles] [Day 6 = 7 1/7 miles] [Day 7 = 7
1/7 miles] )

There are many ways to get 100M a week and what you are training for should determine your schedule.
But in my case, training for distance
(50/100 miles), the bulk is done in long runs. 100M weeks are not sustainable for me and I may only
do one leading up to a race.

S - 30 S - 20 M - 6 recovery T - 12 (with some tempo/fartlek/pickups) W - 20 T - 12 (with some
tempo/fartlek/pickups) F - off

Plod, The marathon is the last distance where one should try to run the entire distance in training
before the race and if you have followed any of those discussions, many feel training the entire
distance is overkill. While I'm in favor of running 26 or 28 miles before a marathon(assuming some
years racing the distance) when you get past the marathon you can't do this.

Your 33 miles would likely be sufficient training for a 100k unless your miles were all flat at sea
level and the race was all hilly and above 9,000 foot. Your training runs should be as specific to
race as possible.

Most of us simply set a time/distance long run goal. The long run (every two to three weeks) is the
bread and butter to get to the start and finish line. What you do the rest of week depends on your
goals and recovery. Personally, I like to work up to 3-4 hours for a 50k, 4-5 for a 50 miles and 8-9
for a 100 mile. For the 100k I would suggest you work up to 5-6 hours. I don't know how that
translates to miles for you. This is not exactly a complete training guide but something to think
obout. There is other info a few away from http://www.run100s.com (http://www.run100s.com/)

Mega miles is necessary. I would bet the average weekly distance is 40-70 miles - some do less and
others more.

Badwater? You're not thinking out loud your hallucinating. Jump in the oven, set to 350, and bake
yourself all day instead. :) You better LOVE, not tolerate, the heat.

I suppose that, if you're after the miles, you don't care about anything else?

- 6 miles x twice a day x 4d + 6 miles once a day x 2d, 1d x rest => 60mpw
- 6 + 6 x 5d + 20 x 1d, 1d x rest = 80mpw
- 6 + 6 x 3d, 6 + 12 x 2d, 20 x 1d, 1d x rest = 92 mpw

Dunno if this actually means anything though. If you're after a 100 mile race, why not

- 4 + 6 x 4 days + 20 x 2 consecutive days, 1 x rest = 80mpw

Yup. Very effective. Annoyingly, it kills if the dose isn't right. Fun stuff ;-)

The local women's institute has been doing tiny macrame water-wings to help developing nation's
