View Full Version : Friendly club in Cambridge UK with track session?
Hi All,
I've just moved from near Seattle to Cambridge England (well, a village called Hardwick just west of
Cambridge). Back in Redmond I was in the Eastside Runners <http://www.eastsiderunners.com/> (http://www.eastsiderunners.com/) and I
really enjoyed their Wednesday evening track sessions. Can anyone recommend a friendly club in or
near Cambridge that hosts a track session?
Cheers,
Tim.

Hi Tim,
Take a look at http://www.runtrackdir.com/details.asp?track=cambridge. You'll see a list of clubs
towards the end of the page. Can't vouch for any of them but it's a starting point.
I've taken the liberty of cross-posting this to uk.rec.running as well.
Cheers,

I've just joined Cambridge & Coleridge, who have a track session on Tuesdays at 6.30. However, this
will stop very soon, since the track isn't floodlit, and it's now getting dark by 7.30... I believe
that they'll start doing "hill" sessions after that (in quotes, because as you'll find out after
spending a little more time in Cambridge, we don't have any hills worth the name).
There's a variety of clubs in the surrounding area, though I don't know of one any closer to
Hardwick. Doesn't mean there aren't any of course!

It might be worth posting to the ukrunning mailing list. Tony Bell is based in Cambridge, he and his
wife both run there.

On 28th September is the Saffron Walden 10K. This is about 20 miles from Hardwick, and so might be a
good place to meet up with some runners from local clubs as I'm sure you'll see club vests from all
around the area.
I think it's still open for entries. The URL is something like www.saffron-striders.org The
organising club is certainly Saffron Striders so a google search will certainly find them.

There is also the Cambridge 10K on 5 October....which I suspect is organised by a local club - again
a good chance to meet some people.
You'll find information on www.runnersworld.co.uk - search under events for Cambridge.
If Cambridge is not friendly enough for you and you don't mind a drive, try Bedford Harriers. They
are very friendly and open to everyone from complete beginner to 6 minute miler (and faster if you
like!!) They are on www.bedfordharriers.co.uk
Hope you are settling in well to the UK!
