View Full Version : Iron Man
How long do you prepare for an Iron Man competition? Do you change your diet at all during this
training period?

How long do you prepare...it depends on what your fitness is like at the moment...if you've never
ridden a bike, last swam when you were 4, and the only running you do is for a bus then the answer
is 'quite a while'. If you run, swim, bike regularly then the 'ramp up' period could well be
shorter. As a guideline I would stay start thinking about it 9 months out. Do you change diet?
Depends what your eating now! If your a burger and chips followed by a few pints of beer then it
would be advisable!

I would say it takes several years to go from couch potato to being able to finish an ironman with a
high degree of certainty. I have never attempted an ironman, but I did spend an entire season doing
only sprint triathlons and road races from 5k up to half marathon before I even attempted an olympic
distance triathlon. I'm sure I could have finished the OLY distance in my first season, but I did
not want to waste the high entry fee doing an event without high confidence of finishing and some
chance of placing.

Why do you guys respond to him? It's obvious he's spamming the newsgroups to advertise his book.

BTW, I did a search on google find the amount of crap he posts to every conceivable newsgroup. 170+
different newsgroups and counting. Save your time and don't reply to fake questions.
A posting to rec.gardens, rec.gardens.organic, rec.gardens.roses, rec.gardens.violets in a post
about "Alysums are a nice compliment"
Anne Lurie,
you better be very careful who you say defamatory things to. I am investigating possible courses of
action against you and have sent a complaint to amazon.com as well as to usenet and to other
affiliations for your very ignorant post.
Get a life, and if your jealous that I have a book out, tough.
My post to the rec.gardens group was relevant and for your wickedness you are going to pay.

I would hope that someone who could get a book published would know the difference between "your"
and "you're," but I guess not. Maybe that's why it's selling so poorly.

Me too. Also leave the fags and cigars out for an hour before the race starts - it helps your times
somewhat. OSB

Southern Comfort in the water bottle certainly makes the race easier as you go along though

taking this abstinence thing too far.

Yeah-he's been a busy boy... This is a nifty tool for doing the same kind of search you did:
http://netscan.research.microsoft.com/author/authorProfile.asp
Just pop in the email address you want to look for.
It runs a couple of months behind though. I count 732 newsgroups in the period of ~two weeks during
July. Wow.
