KING MIKE IS BACK!!!
View Full Version : KING MIKE IS BACK!!!
Ladies and gentlemen, the good old Michele Bartoli, the same one that destroyed Zuelle and Jaja
together at the LBL, is back. Today at the Giro del Lazio (1.HC) he destroyed the field over the
cobbled steep wall of the Hannibal Fields (21% in the steepest point). Only Celestino and JAFG
managed to stay with him, but 50 km afterwards, near the final lane, he beat them in a tactical
sprint that the Tuscan lead and won with majestic strategy.
A Real Thoroughbred Champion is back.
Now, if really Ballerini wants to name for Hamilton such losers as rebellin, casagrande and basso,
keeping Pisan King Mike home, we all know which team noone has to support.
LONG LIVE BARTOLI

Nice -- but what would it take to get a totally in-shape Bartoli to San Francisco next year?

I am a big Bartoli fan, but he is a head case whether he is winning or losing. That is why he will
never win the World's and Ballerini knows it.

An important bike race?;-)

Knowing the history between Bartoli and Bettini... I think Ballerini runs some risks if he can't
make Bartoli take the subordinate role for worlds. One of the reasons the azzurri did well last year
is that they had a clear plan with one leader.

Maybe SF can upgrade to a 1.2 next year, probably still not enough ehh?

I like Mark McCormack to win in Hamilton.

All the great ones are "Headcases", long may it continue ! We would'nt want too many
"Armstrongs".
Bartoli, LBL 1997, saw it live on Eurosport, nothing has come close since, maybe Ullrich on the
road to Arcalis in the Tour of the same year. Respect is due.

Oh, God yes. He is an enigma. Someone with that much talent...and that mostly wastes it with his
samurai fantasy ****...is depressing. He acts like he is the *chosen one*, whether he has the form
to back it up or not. He wants to be treated like the chosen one at all times. I guess that sums up
my issues with Bartoli. Before 1999 or 2000 I had nothing bad to say about him. His reaction to the
success of his former lieutenant (Bettini) has been terrible and he has never really gotten his act
together since then. On the bike, he has had moments of brilliance since then, but that is about all
I can say about *the warrior*.

Well, in the same race I'd say 1999 (VDB). In other races, Museeuw in Paris-Roubaix 2002.

Bartoli should not be on the Italian Worlds team because of what he did in 1997.
The Italian who has the best chance to win in Hamilton is Bettini. Since Bartoli is too much of a
prima donna to ride for someone else, he should be left at home.
OTOH, it would be interesting to see Bartoli on the team and watch the azzuri chase each other down,
like they did from 1993-2001.

WOW.
That is one FAR OUT pick.
Ken, is MM wins I won't ever make fun of you, your picks, or you knowledge of cycling on r.b.r.
again. I wish you luck.
btw, let's start a thread about Hincapie's chances at World's.

I don't care if you make fun of me on anything if I say something ignorant. When I do hit me hard.

His chances are less than Mark's and less than Horner's.

Dumbass -
How can you say that? McCormack hasn't really raced against the top Euros. Even on home territory at
Philly he got 4th (against some decent Euros, but not an entire field of them). I wouldn't pick
George to win either, but at least he's used to that environment and he has the Vuelta as
preparation.

Dumbass:
He can say that because GH doesn't win races. Those other guys sometimes win.
Just to be clear, we're not talking about GH or anybody else's chances of placing, say, 5th. We're
talking about winning. GH doesn't win, so anybody has a better chance than he does.
The last sentence in KJP's message above is the smartest thing I have ever heard him say about
cycling. This, combined with Ken's it-can't-possibly-be-real good humor and optimism, is turning me
into a fan of Ken!

Don't call me a dumbass, you sound like some Comedy Channel Flunky!
October is not June. Mark's got excellent form right now, but then, now that I think of if, for a
240km WC race?
Hmmm....
We'll see but I am sticking to my obviously under-informed opinion here.

Well, there's the inagural SF Grand Prix and 2001 Ghent-Wevelgem.

As an aside, I'm talking about McCormack, not Horner. Horner has European experience.

Winning Ghent-Wevelgem to winning the WC is a much smaller jump than winning the North American pro
series to WC. Look at the difference in who they're racing against, for starters.
Franco Ballerini would agree with me. read this:

What, Kurgan, no 'dumbass' for me that time? You must like me.
Of course I agree with you about GW being more similar to World's than any North American race or
series. The blind squirrel remark just emphasizes the point I have been making all along - GH wins
no more races than you would expect him to if his results were generated totally by chance. Super
strong cyclist? Yup. Experienced? Without a doubt. Winner?
Uh, no. Riding hundreds of races and winning two doesn't mean much. Chris Horner would've won more
than GH has riding in Europe, had his career there lasted longer. That doesn't mean he'd be as good
as GH at what GH does best (carthorse), just that he'd win more than two races out of the hundreds
that he'd ride.
I'd place a bet on GH to place in the top ten, but never for him to win. Horner, I'd buy a win
ticket (if the odds were sufficiently long).
