HIGH HEARTRATE

Jon

I have been running off and on for about a year and a half now and have always been concerned about
my high heart rate. When I started running I used a schedule I found in a book, run for 2 mins. walk
2 and slowly worked up to 30mins of non-stop running. During the runs (30 minutes) my HR would start
out low and go up to the 190's in about 9 minutes and stay there, sometimes it would go up to 205 or
210. I feel comfortable at these rates during my runs. I ran a 5k last September and it got up to
220. I just ran the same 5k on Saturday and it got up to 233. My hr monitor is accurate when I am at
rest (low 50's) but when it is high I cannot count that fast so I don't know if its off. I am 33 @
185lbs. I improved my 5k time by 4 minutes.

I plan to keep running and I will probably get a stress test in a few weeks to see if I will get a
heart attack or not. Any one here have a similar HR? If so what do you do besides slow down?

Thanks Jon

All that reallly matters is that is not zero.

According to the Sally Edwards books, there's no correlation between a high Heart Rate Max and and
fitness level or ability. Same for low Heart Rate Max.

I'd say, don't worry about it.

Although there may be nothing wrong it is not entirely "Average" to have that high of a
maxHR. I think when anyone strays REALLY far from average it doesn't hurt to get an experts
opinion, as it looks like you are doing in the form of a stress test.
