Wanted..... (cheeky)

View Full Version : Wanted..... (cheeky)

Hi,

Anyone got an old/unused/unloved off-road bike going begging?

Something needing a bit of work would be ok

I'm being cheeky 'cos it's for me to accompany my Scout troop on a short series of expeditions and
they seem to think bridle paths will be more fun than tarmac..... something my road bike doesn't
agree with.....

In fact, something needing some minor fettling would be good as we could use it as a demo model for
the coming weeks' meetings.

BTW, I'm 6' 4" so a bigger frame would be better, tho I'll put up with some for the time/distance
the Scouts will manage.

I can collect within reasonable car distance of Oxford/ Reading (based in Wallingford).

Once we've done this little lot of riding/camping, I'll make sure it goes on to a home where
it'll be used.

So come on, someone must have an old bike they've been meaning to shift for the space, only it's
just a bit too good to go to the tip.

TIA,

Jon

PS Don't ask, don't get;)

All I can offer is a 3 speed ladies shopper......so I guess that'll be a "thanks but no thanks" :-)

(hey, it got me cycling again after a long break so it served a purpose!!)

Cheers, Hedgehog

If your offer of the "shopper" is still going, I would like it. I'll even pay postage.

I want it so that I can convert it into an swb recumbent, if you want
anything for it or a contribution towards packing costs, just let me know.

Thanks

Is this the dutchbikes kit <URL: http://www.dutchbikes.nl/uk.htm >? If so, let us know how you get
on! Actually, let us know how you get on anyway.

No, I hadn't seen that site before. I was just going to graft the front tube and bottom bracket
from a racer to the headstock of a Raleigh shopper, place the seat in front of the shopper seat
tube and relay the chain to the back wheel through a double chainwheel (with it's cranks removed)
on the existing bottom bracket of the shopper.

I don't know how well it would work, but to find out I first need a Raleigh Shopper :-)

Well, thanks anyway. It's a bit like Blind Date..... I've made a marriage, but not between the
contestants who were together on screen!

A friend of a friend has come up trumps with a decent loaner that will actually fit me so it's time
to find out if I like off road now I'm reasonably fit;)

Cheers,

Jon
