David Auker
This winter I'm helping organize a New Years week of training in Death Valley. Contact me if you'd
like to join us!
An 8-day week of 460 miles (50 miles/day, with one 110 miler). This is shortly after the winter
solstice, and you KNOW you need to reacquaint your body with some miles for '04!
Currently in planning:
December 26 - January 3, Death Valley. A wonderful place to ride, lots of gently rolling terrain on
the Valley floor, with some 1,000-2,000' popper climbs and also "sky is the limit" ("temperature is
the limit?") climbing. Artist's Palette, Mud Canyon, Dante's View, Scotty's Castle, Badwater
(-280'), Dante's View (5,475'). Hiking possibilities.
Sarah Auker will be cooking - the food will be great. She has cooked for many Super Tours, of which
this is an offshoot. Breakfasts, light lunch, hearty dinners.
$300, doesn't include misc. things like riding food, showers.
We'll be camping at Furnace Creek, likely for the entire week, so there will be only one set up/tear
down. Nearby pool, store, museums (with nightly programs). Likely warm enough for riding in shorts,
but can freeze at night. Lots of stars!
Think about giving yourself that well-deserved break from riding fendered fixed gear on wet NW
streets, and log in some sunny miles in Death Valley - a unique scenic area, where you can ride
below sea level viewing Telescope Peak (11,049').
More info forthcoming - let me know if you're interested!
Thanks for reading, David
