Bettini," said Freire. "You go ahead.">

Can you imagine Bartoli saying something like that?

Nope. The same goes for VDB (who raced with broken arms without telling his team mates at the
World's in Verona).

And no chance of winning (couldn't get out of saddle).

Had an obligation to tell teamates.

Bartoli does not need to say that, because he's simply the best. In 250 km long one day races he
always have the legs to follow whoever. When he misses a break, it's because of calculation errors,
of wrong strategy, not because he does not have the strenght.

bartoli circa 1996-8, yes i agree. the bartoli of here and now, sorry no. ever since he smashed his
knee in the Tour of Germany in 1999 he hasn't been the same. his winning efforts are much more far
and in between now than in the past. and no one, except Merckx maybe, ALWAYS had the legs to follow
everyone in a 250k long race, sorry. bartoli just isn't the rider he used to be, but his mentality
is still stuck in the late 90's when he was WC champion. now, the aging bartoli has been much
overshadowed by his former 'gregario' bettini, good for you Paolo !

Dude he ended 7th and that was a result that no other Belgian rider was capable of that day. So I
think he made the most of it for the Belgian team.

Really? There was no chance any of the Belgians might have been one of the six in front of him if
they did not spend the last laps defending a cripple?

You may be right but that is not what the rest of the team thought when they found out.
