Getting a bit bored these days.... no goal races, so I thought I'd go out and do a 5K time trial at
the local track, just to see where I'm at right now. I've been doing 3 runs per week, usually
fartlek and tempo runs. Also lots of cycling and a bit of swimming for X-training. I cycled (5-10
min.) up to the track, did a little warmup, then got started.

I was counting laps while keeping track of when each km was done (so that i could punch in my
splits on my watch). Unfortunately, I gaffed on the 4th km (forgot about the extra half lap to make
it a full km).

I am fairly happy with my results. I have sort of resigned myself to the fact that I'll always be in
the 23-24 min. range unless I do some extra serious 5K training.... which I haven't been doing for a
long time.

My splits for the 4.8K:

Overall = 22:52 (I would have loved that as a 5K time. Haven't broken
23:00 in quite a while)

1K - 4:47 (expected that) 2 - 4:59 (hmmm) 3 - 4:48 4 - 3:48 (the 800m "km") 5 - 4:29

Guess-timate of what the full 5K might have been = 23:30-23:40

The last couple of 5K road races I did (last fall, and this spring) were right in that range, too.
So I'm at least maintaining something, if not seeing PR's, in my advancing age :) Funny thing is
that I did 5K in
24:05 at the end of a sprint triathlon in July, following much swimming and cycling. How'd
I do that?
