For about a week, I've had pain on the top of my foot (close to the base of the toes) when I bend my
toes up. I dont have pain when walking but if i try to run it's bad. this just seemed to come out of
nowhere--could it be a stress fracture?

Then stop bending your toes up. C'mon, this isn't rocket science.

Remember that every muscle when it is working (agonist) has an opposite muscle (antagonist) that is
relaxing. It the antagonist muscle is only partially relaxing, then the working muscle has to do
double work of moving whatever it is moving and also has to work against a muscle that isn't
completely relaxed. So massage out both agonist and antagonist when you have a problem in a muscle.

When the range of motion decreases the fascia around the muscle also shortens and then the muscle
within that fascial sheath can't move through it's range of motion. So working on freeing the fascia
often called adhesions, will allow the muscles to go through their full range of motion.

Step on a tennis ball on the arch of your foot. Do it first behind the ball of the foot, then in
front of the heel of the foot and finally in the middle of the arch where you push down as if you'll
pop the tennis ball without the ball or heel touching.

There is a condition where arthritis can start affecting that joint. I have
it. Could be that.

Search for Hallux Rigidus on the internet.

I have arthritis, and my joints are fine. I guess those thirtyfive years of rolling them has left me
with a lifelong talent that even arthritis can't stop.
