View Full Version : kneeling quadricep stretch....
I was just wondering what everyones opinion is of the above quad stretch - for those not familiar it
is outlined on www.howtostretch.com. I am hearing alot of conflicting reports from different people
about the danger of this stretch to the knees. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, Alex

I'll sound in on the "never stretch side" or at least the "never stretch before a run" side. Any
stretches to my knees are disastrous.

First continue to roll the quads: http://www.mindfulness.com/of5.asp When being taught this
kneeling/sitting position
a. Use a towel under the front of the ankles so as not to strain the tendons of the
anterior tibialis
b. Sit on a cushion so as not to strain the knee joints
c. Gradually, ever so gradually you will be able to lessen the height of the towel under the
ankle and the cushion as the quads get more relaxed and elongated.
d. Continue to massage out the shins and quads and continue to roll out the quads regularly.
When you are ready, we can talk about the process of laying back from this kneeling/sitting
position. That will have to with the pelvis, back muscles, abs, psoas for starters.

At the moment i manually roll the quads with a rolling pin, i find this method easier than laying on
it. I find that rolling the quads can make the muscles spasm even more if your not gentle with the
massage. Btw, is there anyway to differentiate between knee pain caused by tight quad muscles or
knee pain caused by internal knee damage without an MRI etc?.
