I'm sure I haven't been alone in contacting The Trainline over the quiet dropping of the online
booking service for bikes. I have finally received a reply which I have pasted below. This is
clearly a backwards step in cycle/train integration and I'm sure many cyclists (whether or not they
take bikes on the train) will wish to avoid booking with The Trainline (? a Virgin Company) until
this facility is restored.
Please contact The Trainline via (and it's a bit of a long via) www.thetrainline.com if you want to
complain about this too.
The original post on this issue went way off topic - I suggest any replies which rehash old stuff
about oily chains in crowded carriages are ignored - the thread is about an online booking facility!
*Quote* Why can't I book bikes on-line now. thetrainline undertakes regular reviews of website
performance and ease of use to ensure that it offers the best possible service to all customers.
Following a website review of the functionality that was used on the site in July 2003 and
considering customer feedback, we identified the need to streamline the train ticket booking and
purchasing process.
In order to speed up this process for all customers we removed some of the filter options, for
example search by ticket type, and the bicycle booking facility. However, we appreciate that this
booking facility is important to some of our customers and still provide a bicycle booking service
through our Customer Service (0870 010 1296). *Unquote*
