Apparently even in Scotland, if you cycle in a kilt you need a helmet and body armour for protection
from louts throwing things at you:-

The Earl of Galloway is well known for cycling around these parts on an old bike of the 'ladies'
style, wearing his kilt with a rather fetching pair of very brightly coloured boxing shorts
underneath.
