Christmas Pressie Ideas
View Full Version : Christmas Pressie Ideas
I bought myself one of these last month. It seems to be quite useful for us cyclists, containing a
multitude of allen-keys, screwdrivers, a very decent blade, and pliers. I haven't tested the wire
cutter section to the pliers but I wouldn't trust it - I'd prefer to precut my cables. It also has
can-opener and bottle opener but alas no corkscrew.
Some people may hate the fact that the blades are held onto a spindle in the handle by a nut and
bolt instead of a rivet but I actually prefer this as it means it can be tightened when necessary,
whereas once a rivet becomes loose it is useless.
I don't use SPDs so I can't test the design but I'm doubtful whether the physical layout of the tool
will allow adjustment of cleat tension in situ.
When the unit is folded the blade aperture is on the outside rather than the inside and I did once
shove my hand blindly into my rucksack, causing a rather shocking stab to my finger. But that was my
fault for being too lazy to replce the tool into its sturdy pouch (which comes with an enclosed belt
loop, covered with a twin-flap velcro fastening for attaching it to larger objects.
I paid £24 from Oswald Bailey (that included my 10% Royal College of Nursing discount)

Looks quite nifty.
Was looking to buy a similar multi tool myself recently, fancied a Leatherman Wave....
Found one at Amazon.com which comes with a separate Mag Lite mini torch for £35 (well 58 dollars).
Bargain! I thought, I'll have that....

Of course, the buggers wont sell it to us Brits, we are expected to pay about 90 quid for the
Leatherman on its own back here in Blighty. Rip off Britain strikes again.
Internet? Global Commerce? My ****.
Who's got a friend in the US? We'll all have one and share the shipping! :o)

That's unreal! I went and had a look for a Leatherman Crunch (the one with the built-in mole grip)
recently and decided that at UKP99 I didn't need one. The price on (US) Amazon is UKP35.50
(including maglite). What a total rip-off!

I am rather taken with the Topeak front light I saw in my LBS this evening. I have no details other
than its some fancy sealed lamp and a small fancy battery pack and costs about 5 times a supermarket
clunker i.e. ~300 notes
:~O
But -- it would light up the moon and make any bastard dip his lights at 5 miles.
Bright? Nah!!
Now, anyone wishing to send me a sample ......
