Anyone ever post a bike to New Zealand?
View Full Version : Anyone ever post a bike to New Zealand?
Hi a Kiwi friend of mine is heading home after a stay here in bucks for the last couple of years.
Problem.
He's bought two bikes (a road and a mtb) and some assorted kit he wants to take back with him and
the airline won't allow any bikes as he switches airlines after a stop in the far east somewhere.
All in all its probably about 50 kilos or so.
Does any one have any recommendations (I know I might regret typing this) on how he can pack up his
bikes over here and ship to New Zealand?
Help!

Surprised the airline won't take one bike, even with a change of flights. Probably the best is to
get an international removals firm that deals with New Zealand to deal with them. They may be a bit
slower than air freight but they tend to use consolidated sea freight which is a lot cheaper.

It would be very hard to fly anything to New Zealand at the moment as all the flights are full of
thousands of counsellors who are on their way there after the happenings in Australia on
Saturday.....

No, it's OK now....they've all been diverted to France!
Regards,
Pete.
I don't know about UK->NZ, but I air freighted my bike NZ->UK for around NZ$250. I dropped off the
box at some air-frieght company, and then picked it up at terminal 4 LHR.
It would have cost less than $250, but we had gone over the minimum weight limit for the size of the
box, so anything else we could fit in was going to be sent at $10/kg or something like that, so we
ended up packing it full of other things as well.
