Yesterday was the Ann Arbor Turkey Trot, with a 5K, a 10K and a chance to run both if you felt like
competing it (and pay the fee). I thought about doing the Iron Turkey (both the 5K and 10K), but I
decided to just concentratea on the 10K, as I just ran a 5K two weeks ago, and I haven't run a 10K
in 12 years, and I'd like to see where I'm at with it. My goals were to finish with a pace under 7
minutes per mile.

The Ann Arbor Turkey Trot is run in Hudson Mills Metropark near Dexter, MI. It's run on a 2.7 mile
loop course which is mostly paved trails, with a a little gravel at the very beginning and very end.
The course is slightly rolling, but I really didn't notice the hills, as my hillwork has been
working for me very well so far this year. The course was chip timed, but the mats were only at the
finish line, not the start line. I'd never seen that before. Would have cut about 11 seconds off of
my time if there had been mats at both. ;-) I started way too far back, in the front quarter of the
pack, and still passed about 50 people in the first half mile. The course, as I said, was slightly
rolling, but the sharp hills were mostly down hill, and the uphills were very gradual. I'm pretty
sure I wasn't passed by anyone at all during the race, and blew by a couple people on a sharp kick
to the finish. My splits are below:

6:57-6:43-6:51

6a: 21:10

7:52-6:36-6:39-1:28= final gun time: 42:16, watch time, 42:07.

Places: 7/30 age group, 45/398 overall. Places were probably amplified upward because people running
in the Iron Turkey were counted in with the riff-raff, so their times would have been lower. All in
all, a good race, and another pleasing finish.

Maybe I'll have to try the Iron Turkey out next year, and see how it goes...

Nice going, Jeremy! Yeah, I guess that will do for a sub-45 quite nicely.

All in all, you've bagged some good races this year.

Congratulations on a fine race. I only hope that I can run the same pace in an upcoming 5k that I've
signed up for. Actual goal is to get under 25 minutes. We'll see!
